Student Coins, XP & Rewards
Use the built-in gamification system to motivate and reward student participation.
Gamification is one of the most effective ways to increase student engagement, and Wittigo builds it directly into the classroom experience. Every student earns XP (experience points) and Coins as they participate, creating a positive feedback loop that encourages consistent effort. The system is fully under your control — you set the rules, the rewards, and the consequences.
XP and Coins Explained
XP tracks overall learning progress — it goes up as students play more and answer correctly. It is a lifetime metric that shows long-term growth. Coins, on the other hand, are a spendable currency. Students earn coins for correct answers and participation, then spend them in the Avatar Shop to unlock new avatars. This creates both intrinsic motivation (XP = mastery) and extrinsic motivation (Coins = rewards).
Teacher Controls
As the teacher, you can manually award bonus coins to a student for exceptional effort, good behaviour, or completing extra work. You can also deduct coins as a consequence system if needed. The classroom leaderboard is visible to students, showing who has the most XP. This drives healthy competition, but you can also use it to highlight improvement — "Most XP gained this week" rather than just "Highest total".
The Avatar Shop
Students spend their coins in the Avatar Shop to unlock new avatars that represent them in the classroom leaderboard. Avatars range from simple icons to elaborate characters, and students often develop strong attachments to their chosen persona. This personal investment makes them care more about classroom participation.
