CSV/Excel Bulk Question Import

Import questions from a spreadsheet to create games in bulk, saving hours of manual entry.

Manually entering questions one by one is fine for small games, but when you have 20 or more questions ready in a spreadsheet, bulk import saves enormous time. Wittigo can read CSV and Excel files and automatically parse them into questions — complete with answers, distractors, and formatting.

How to Import

  1. Open the game editor and click "Import from CSV/Excel" (next to the manual add button).
  2. Download the template for your game mode — this ensures your spreadsheet has the right columns.
  3. Fill in the template with your questions. Each row is one question. Required columns depend on the game mode.
  4. Upload your completed file. Wittigo will preview the parsed questions before importing.
  5. Review the parsed questions, fix any errors flagged by the parser, and click "Import All".
  6. The imported questions appear in your game editor, ready to edit or save.

Template Columns by Game Mode

Multiple Choice MCQ: Question, Correct Answer, Distractor 1, Distractor 2, Distractor 3. True/False Dash: Question, Answer (True or False). Word Connect: Term, Match. Head Tilt: Question, Option A, Option B. Each template also supports an optional "Image URL" column for question images.

Troubleshooting Imports

If questions do not import correctly, check that you are using the right template for your game mode. Common issues include extra columns, missing required fields, or incorrect answer formatting. The parser highlights problematic rows — hover over the error icon to see what needs fixing. CSV files should be UTF-8 encoded for special characters to import correctly.
